Font - Posted by u/Tintenfishvom Strand 9 hours ago Got laid off due to suspicious reasons, got both CEOs fired. I'd been working for this game studio for more than 10 years. A few years ago it was bought by a group company, but the CEOs kept their independence in leading and decision making. The bosses were always more or less authoritarian and paternalistic, but the pay was alright and it was really convenient for me because my husband also works there. We are (were) both very efficient, with

Font - With the recent advancements CEOs rushed to ride the wave of AI generated game content and ordered us to use Stable Diffusion for anything and everything and to buy the premium version of ChatGPT - with our own money. They told us indirectly that if we didn't follow the orders we'd be let go (very illegal here in Europe). They wanted us to use ChatGPT for 1 hour daily outside of work and report at the meeting the following day. I silently refused to buy ChatGPT, but did ask the in AI, the

Font - HR what would be the consequences of not buying it, he said he didn't know of any. :) Yet, I dug deep into Stable Diffusion despite my dislike of using it, and made a thorough guide for the others to use, I even shared my findings with one of the bosses who was constantly keeping an eye on us. Meanwhile the CEOs promoted AI content to the group directors and promised them very high quality and quantity for a reduced amount of working hours. That wasn't really achievable, so they put more

Font - About a month later, the group company made a poll regarding our satisfaction at work and seeing the answers were anonymous I shared my discontent with my bosses' behavior. Another month passed by and I (and 2 more colleagues from my dept) got suddenly laid off, in the middle of a few very busy projects, with nobody to cover for us. I got told the group company ordered the staff reduction due to reduced amount of work. By the end of the day I had to finish what I'd started (being in shock

Font - On the next day, CEO1 called my husband to ask him whether he's bitter I got laid off because they don't want to lose him and explained to him why I was one of the chosen ones. The group company had apparently showed them the anonymized answers to the poll and scolded them, so the CEOs suspected me of being the whistleblower.

Font - I found it cumbersome and useless to file a lawsuit or report to the Labor inspectorate, but I did use the whistleblower platform of the group company and asked them for the reasons of being laid off, while further describing the studio's attitude toward me. I haven't yet received an official answer to my report, but I got the news that last week the CEOs had to unexpectedly cancel their vacations because a group company representative had come to the studio and had them both fired. They would send us survey links that were all the exact same link for polls, telling us they were anonymous. I went out and created my own Statistical Primate account and got familiar

No matter when I logged in, or how I was connected to the network, my device got the same IP. I even swapped cables with a couple printers; always drew the same IP. So, my work uses assigned IP's. That means they can map back to certain machines to see who responded how on their 'anonymous' survey.

Font - So, I put it to the test and stopped responding. After the 3rd one skipped, I started getting bcc'ed on 'generic' reminders to complete the company survey. I never got those before. After th3 6-7th, I got a Teams message from an HR kid asking if there was a problem with the surveys. She didnt know,

Font - she was just told to call people and ask. I claimed I had been taking them and that ended that conversation, but 2 surveys after that, and HR supervisor called with the same question. Im pretty sure this lady knew, but was just playing cagey. I did the 'follow up email' bit to offer additional assistance and ask if i should put in a ticket with IT since "my surveys apparently werent being saved?". She responded and unintentionally helped me document that the organization was fully aware t

Font - I proceed to inform my favorite coworkers that we were being lied to. Some suspected, but the fact that we ALL got the same link had thrown them off. When I showed them my Statistical Primate tool results, and followed that up with the HR email chain, they conceded.

Font - Not long after that I got called into an HR meeting/hearing that I was spreading rumors that the surveys were 'bugged' or a 'trick'. These were not words I used when discussing with anyone about this, so someone was making it a point to try to cast me in a bad light. I played dumb to point, but somewhere along the way they mentioned disciplinary action, so I

Font - opened up a bit and asked how these unfounded accusations were coming about when I had been nothing but helpful in trying to troubleshoot their anonymous poll, then acted like I just had a revelation... " How could you guys have known I was having problems with the poll UNLESS YOU WERE TRACKING WHO ANSWERED OR NOT?!?!?"
  • 14
Font - They started back pedaling right away, stating it was that big a deal, nothing to worry about, etc. When I reminded them that they were the ones to bring up the idea of disciplinary action, so I 'll need to vigorously defend myself against these accusations, least if mar my permanent record, they wanted to drop the whole thing. When I insisted on seeing the raw data to prove or dispel that the surveys were anonymous, they said that would be the end of it and made ready to leave. I took one

Font - spent the next couple months documenting my contributions to a couple high revenue projects and GTFO not long after that. I sill have a bad taste in my mouth for company politics because of it. ↑ 1.0k Reply Reply Share

Font - ble. 5 hr. ago As someone that has worked in the AI space for almost two decades now... companies are idiots if they think they can replace talented people with them. For art, the content they produce is full of weird artifacts and 3d texturing is an unsolved problem. For coding... almost no one writes code in isolation. They're incredibly useful for boilerplate and auto complete but lack any kind of critical thinking and decision making about formulating requirements. 39 Reply Share

Font - Ninja-Panda86 · 5 hr. ago Good on you! And look - I've been TRYING to use AI to do some art. "BeCAWZ it R fasta!" .... it's not faster. It sucks so bad and I have to redo so much of it that I might as well as draw it all from the start. Reply Share 14 Tintenfishvom Strand OP. 5 hr. ago Exactly! And when you look at the details and think of a way to make them make sense, you just want to throw away the computer and run away. 9 Reply Share ●●●

Font - Sherinz89 6 hr. ago Game company! Growing up, even as I'm studying computer science... I've always wanted to dive into being a game developer (low level, mechanics or even modern UI design) But sadly I've heard from many people that companies abuses developer whom are passionate with the company or the product, working their asses to their bones.
